Original Map by gamera1985 Original Map by gamera1985
Though I only started drawing a few years ago, I always remember myself scribbling down maps, particularly historical ones. It's just so much fun to me, and also a good way to learn history I think.

That way, you can learn connection between countries and people. It is also a good way to memorize things: for example, I find it easier to remember all of the United States by a map than just a text. Same goes for many learnings.

Anyway, that to say that I tried myself at drawing a map, now that I got some "artistic" skills in my hand. Here is the result.

I got the idea after I read an artbook of the Five Star Stories, giving many informations about planets and people, and with well done "fantasy" satelital maps.
So I thought it was a good idea to see if I could do one myself.

I know, the rivers are a bit too large, considering the scale, but I wanted them to be easily recognizable from any viewers. Also, names are kinda randoms: don't really have any idea of universe here, just wanted to give it a bit of a soul.

I hope you people will find it interesting. ^_^

I could create a whole universe with that map... but it would take me pages and pages to explain it all

I really like this map. It has a whole bunch of things going on and I find myself imaging the type of civilizations that might exist on this world.

I also tended to sketch out maps when I was younger, since it was (and still is) the only thing I could draw. There's just something really fun about drawing a map, whether real or fictional, and just detailing it, adding layers and working towards whatever end goal you might have, then colouring it in. Thanks for creating this one. :)

I can usually shorten descriptions of civilizations down to a few paragraphs. For example:
Home Star(s): Hyperion
Home Planet: Helios
Moon(s): Selene, Eos
Civilization: Mankind Undivided(alternate)
Kardeshev Scale: 0.83
Space program status: Manned Interplanetary, Unmanned Interstellar
Technological Status: Information Age -8 quantum computing -10 plasma shielding -2 prosthetics -1 gene modding -5 magnetic weapons +20 NFTL drives +1 lighting

Main Popular Government(s): Elective Monarchy, Megacorporation
Global Powers: Pontic Technologies Inc., Dathic Popular Democratic People's Socialist Republic
guide: each point in the technology thing is one 100th of a level on the tech tree(stone age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Industrial Age, Atomic Age, Information Age, Void of the Unknown…). The first three should be well known to you, but the last three are the Industrial Age: the technological capabilities of the Industrial Revolution to the end of WWII; the Atomic Age: the technological capabilities of the end of WWII to the Digital Revolution; the Information Age: the technological capabilities of the Digital Revolution to the WARNING! INSUFFICIENT DATA; The main popular government(s) are the forms of government which make up over 90% of the countries in that society at the current time.

Wonderful map!

I've been looking for one to use for a D&D session, and I see you've been allowing people to use it for such purposes.

I'd love to use it if that's all right. I know it must be annoying constantly being solicited by people to use the map for games, but it's just so perfect!

This is brilliant. I needed a map for my story for a class project and this map is perfect for it. I really hope you don't mind me using it. (I'm gonna add this link to the references )

By chance do you have an unlabeled one? Do you mind if I use this on Roll20.net? I see I am not the only one to ask about its use, do you just have it in the public domain?

Hi there! I'm going to use GIMP and/or Inkscape to make maps for my book series I'm going to write, and I'd like to know how you made yours, what techniques, etc. 'cause I'm lost and quite intimidated by the seeming complexity of both programs.

Can you help?

well, i didn't used inkscape nor GIMP for making that one, so not sure if it can help...

I basically created patterns of different gorusn (plains, forests, moutnains, etc) that I then used on a mask layer

Love the map!! I saw you gave permission to someone to use this for a RPG and wanted to ask the same. Was also curious if you had a copy before you labeled everything as i'd like to bring the details out as they move across the world.

I used photoshop

it was quite simple in fact: just had to create pattern, using satellite photos, of different gorunds, then used those patterns to paint

then it's up to your imagination ;)

Are you aware that you have rivers bisecting continents? As in, that thing the Suez and Panama canals do, except they were created artificially.

You have a river in the Pontic Desert that hits the ocean near the Oorsik Sea. Except that it also exits and the Sea of Bahar and the Gulf of Slaves. Since water flows from high to low, and since the places where the rivers hit the ocean must be the low parts, I have to ask where the starting point is.

(Sorry about this, but I was once in a D&D game where the DM drew a world map just like this and it annoyed me then, too. It's just one of those things I look for. Otherwise, it looks great.)
